After a decade together at Forest City Ratner Companies (FCRC), a publically traded national real estate developer, Bruce Bender and Scott Cantone established Bender Cantone Consulting Inc., a full service public affairs firm specializing in governmental relations, strategic planning & communications, public policy, political consulting, community outreach and business development strategies.
Together, they have developed and implemented public affairs strategies for some of the City and State's most visible development projects: Atlantic Yards and Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York by Gehry at 8 Spruce Street in Lower Manhattan, The New York Times Building in Midtown, East River Plaza Mall in Upper Manhattan, and Ridge Hill Village in Westchester, among others.
Having worked in senior positions on both sides of City Hall and working closely with elected and government officials in Albany, New York City and Washington, Bruce and Scott have had significant impact on public policy and budgetary matters over the last 30 years. They have developed stellar reputations and long-standing, trusted relationships.
With 40 combined years of experience in public service and 20 years in the private sector, Bender Cantone Consulting offers clients comprehensive expertise and innovative approaches to solving problems. They are a proven and tested team that has successfully represented clients' interests in the community, in government and with the media.
Bruce R. Bender
Bruce is a public affairs professional having served as a senior governmental official as well as a private sector executive. At Forest City Ratner Companies, one of the foremost urban real estate developers in the New York metropolitan area, Bruce was an Executive Vice President and oversaw government, media and community affairs including comprehensive public relations campaigns for some of the largest projects in the New York City metropolitan area.
A 25 year government veteran, he served as Chief of Staff for the Speaker of the New York City Council and Chief of Staff to the Chair of the Finance Committee, where he was responsible for overseeing the City's legislative and budgetary processes and served as the chief negotiator with the Mayor's Office. Bruce has also had tremendous influence over the City's education policy having served for many years as Chief of Staff to the Council's Education Committee. Bruce has managed and consulted countless local, city- and state-wide political campaigns over the course of his career.
He holds a Masters in Public Administration from NYU and a Masters in Public Policy from the New School for Social Research.
Scott C. Cantone
An experienced government executive and attorney with 15 years of public service, Scott served in both administrations of New York City Mayors Bloomberg and Giuliani. As a member of Mayor Giuliani's cabinet he was responsible for overseeing the administration's federal, state and city legislative affairs and was Special Counsel to the Deputy Mayor for Operations. As First Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), Scott was the Chief Operating Officer of a City agency responsible for managing the city's real estate portfolio, citywide procurement, and the civil service system.
Most recently, Scott was an executive at Forest City Ratner Companies where he developed comprehensive public relations strategies and oversaw government, community and media affairs. Scott has also held numerous positions with the State Legislature in Albany and has managed and consulted many local, city- and state-wide political campaigns.
He holds a Juris Doctor from the City University of New York School of Law and a BA in Political Science and Communications from the State University of New York at Albany.
